Virat Kohli endured another failure in the third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Kohli could only muster 3 runs from 16 balls before he fell as the third Indian wicket in the first innings. (Day 3 Blog | Full Coverage | More Cricket News)lucky horse

More than the low score, it was the manner of his dismissal that irked experts and his fans. Kohli once again went to chase a full delivery away from the off-stump to edge the ball to the wicket-keeper Alex Carey. Josh Hazlewood was the bowler who took Kohli's wicket.

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey expressed his enthusiasm and stated: "This bilateral series against Germany will be a remarkable showcase of world-class hockey. Both India and Germany have a rich history in the sport, and this series will give fans an opportunity to witness an intense competition between two of the most formidable teams in the world.

"It is a great honour to be nominated for the FIH Player of the Year Award again," the Indian defender stated in a Hockey India release.

Legendary Sunil Gavaskar said Kohli did not need to play the ball on which he was dismissed. "If it was on the fourth stump I could understand," Gavaskar said on Channel 7. “This was wide, on the seventh, eighth stump, you could say. There's no need to play that."

His dismissal in the third Test's first innings left India in trouble as they were reduced 22 for the loss of three wickets in just 7.2 overs. Right after Kohli's wicket, rain arrive and the players had to head back to the dressing room. Had Kohli negotiated the delivery which got his wicket, he would have gone into the break undefeated.

Gavaskar advised Kohli to be patient and follow Sachin Tendulkar's style of play.

“Virat Kohli has to be patient, just like his role model Sachin Tendulkar. Remember Sachin’s 241 in Sydney? He didn’t play shots on the off side, not even his favourite cover drive. He has such a strong bottom hand. He can play straight or towards mid-wicket so well. He needs to do exactly that, just stop playing towards off," Gavaskar told Star Sports during the lunch break show.

Sanjay Manjerakar, who has consistently criticised Kohli's technique, now trained his guns at the batting coach of the team.

I guess the time has come to scrutinise the role of a batting coach in the Indian team. Why major technical issues have remained unresolved for so long with certain Indian batters. @BCCI

Fans on social media were also quite upset with Kohli's mode of dismissal with some even suggesting the star India batter to retire from the format.

It hurts me to say this but this is blatant arrogance from Kohli. He’s adamant on not working on his weakness. Heck I don’t even think he admits this is a weakness for him. “Oh yeah the Kohli cover drive”. That’s just BS if you can’t score runs. Should be his last 2 tests.

Virat Kohli should learn from Dhoni and retire from Test cricket. Why does the BCCI waste so much time on these once-great but now finished players? #ViratKohli #AUSvIND

#INDvsAUSVirat Kohli and rohit sharma not test players, they exposed badly with this technique, thy must retire otherwise BCCI must fired them..

Kohli has not been at his best in Test cricket for some years now. He did score a century in the second innings of the first Test but apart from that he has not been able to score big in any of the four innings.lucky horse
